Surveillant help center

Everything you need to run Surveillant on your own: connect your cameras, set up monitoring and alerts, and read the results. Each guide takes a few minutes and works the same on every plan.

Frequently asked questions

Which cameras work with Surveillant?

Any IP camera or NVR that provides an RTSP stream, any HLS stream (an address ending in .m3u8) and ONVIF compatible cameras. That covers Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Reolink, Uniview, Amcrest, Hanwha, Bosch and most other brands. The guide How to add your camera or NVR lists the address format for the most common ones.

Do I need new hardware or software on site?

No. Surveillant reads the stream your existing cameras or recorder already produce, and the analysis runs in the cloud. You only need the stream to be reachable from the internet, usually through a port forward on the site router.

How are cameras counted?

Each video stream you add is one camera. A single IP camera is one camera, and an NVR with eight connected cameras is eight cameras, one per channel. Starter includes 1 camera, Plus 2, Pro 6 and Elite 20.

My camera is behind a router (NAT). What can I do?

Forward a TCP port on the router to the camera or NVR, use a static public IP or a DDNS hostname, and paste that public address into Surveillant. If your recorder vendor offers a cloud or relay stream address, that works too. Use a view only user with its own password.

Is the free demo a free plan?

No. The free demo is a one-time analysis of one video or one camera stream, so you can judge the detection quality on your own footage. Continuous monitoring and alerts start with a paid plan.

How quickly will I get an alert?

Monitored cameras are analysed every minute, so an alert usually arrives within about a minute of the event. The cooldown you set on a rule prevents repeated messages about the same ongoing event.

Which alert channels are included?

Email alerts with a snapshot are included on every plan. Webhook and Slack alerts and custom detection prompts are included from Pro. Detection zones and active hours are included on Elite.

Can I send alerts to my team?

Yes. Each alert rule has its own list of email recipients, separated by commas, and scheduled reports have their own recipients too. From Pro you can also post alerts to a Slack channel or any system that accepts a webhook.

How does the monthly usage limit work?

Each plan includes a monthly amount of AI analysis sized to the plan. It covers normal use of the cameras on your plan. If an account reaches it, new analyses pause until the next calendar month or until you move to a larger plan, and the app shows a message saying so.

How do I change or cancel my plan?

Open the account menu in the app and choose Billing. The secure billing portal lets you update your card, download invoices and cancel the subscription at any time. To move to another plan, pick it on the Pricing page while signed in.

What happens after I cancel?

Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period you already paid for. After that, monitoring and new analyses stop. Your account and past results remain, so you can pick a plan again later and continue where you left off.

Where is my data stored, and who can see it?

Video and results are stored encrypted at rest (AES-256) and every record is scoped to your account, so footage from one account is never shown to another. We do not use your footage to train AI models. The Trust page lists our subprocessors and controls.

Can I try it before connecting my own camera?

Yes. Paste our public sample stream https://surveillant.ai/samples/camera/stream.m3u8 into the demo on the home page, or run the sample recordings in guided setup after you create your account.

I have more than 20 cameras. What now?

Elite is the largest self-serve plan with 20 cameras. Start on Elite and email [email protected] when you need more; we raise the limits on your account.
