Vendor Comparison

Spot AI vs Avigilon Pricing for Multi-Site Camera Buyers

Avigilon sells its own cameras, access control and video software, priced through resellers. Spot AI sells an AI layer and an on-site recorder that run on the cameras you already have, priced by quote. Here is what each one costs for a real site, and which buyer each one suits.

Surveillant runs on your existing IP cameras from $49 to $75 per camera per month, with AI alerts included.

Different styles of commercial IP security cameras mounted on one warehouse wall

A mixed camera fleet is where this decision starts. Spot AI keeps it, Avigilon usually replaces it.

Is Spot AI better than Avigilon?

Spot AI is the better buy when your cameras still work and you want AI detection, search and operations reporting on top of them without a rip-and-replace. Avigilon is the better buy when you are replacing cameras anyway and want cameras, door access and video software from one vendor, owned by Motorola Solutions, with an on-premise option.

Neither vendor publishes a price list. Avigilon is sold through resellers: its Alta cloud license is commonly quoted at about $179 per camera for one year, $499 for three, $799 for five and $1,599 for ten, with 30 days of cloud storage, and its on-premise Unity license at about $292 per camera, one time. Avigilon cameras run from about $250 to over $10,000 each. Spot AI describes its price as a flat per-camera subscription that includes its Intelligent Video Recorder, and review sites most often cite about $99 per camera per month. That figure is third-party, not Spot AI's.

The difference that decides most of these deals is where the money goes. With Avigilon, most of a new project is hardware and installation you own afterward. With Spot AI, most of it is a recurring fee for software and the recorder, and the cameras on the wall stay.

One is mostly a capital purchase. The other is mostly an operating expense.

Spot AI vs Avigilon Feature and Price Table

Spot AI entries come from spot.ai, including its own Avigilon comparison page dated July 2026. Avigilon figures are reseller list prices, because avigilon.com sends buyers to a quote form. We treated each vendor's description of the other as marketing and left it out.

The camera row is the one to read first. Avigilon is at its best on Avigilon cameras, and a quote from an Avigilon partner almost always replaces what is on the wall. That is a fair choice when the old cameras are analog, failing or not NDAA compliant. It is an expensive choice when they are three-year-old 4MP domes that work fine. Our Avigilon pricing breakdown lists every camera, license and installation range if you need them for a budget sheet.

The access control row is the second. If the project includes door readers, Avigilon puts video and doors in one console and Spot AI does not. Buyers who need doors and keep cameras often end up with two vendors, which is workable but worth pricing honestly before the meeting.

How much do Spot AI and Avigilon cost for 20 cameras?

For 20 new Avigilon cameras on a five-year Alta license, reseller list figures come to $8,000 to $40,000 in cameras plus $15,980 in licenses, so $23,980 to $55,980 over five years before installation. Spot AI at the third-party figure of $99 per camera per month would be $23,760 a year, or $118,800 over five years, with your existing cameras kept and the recorder included.

20 cameras, one site Hardware Software Five years, before install
Avigilon Alta, new cameras $8,000 to $40,000 (reseller list, $400 to $2,000 each) $15,980 for five-year terms ($799 each) $23,980 to $55,980
Avigilon Unity, new cameras Same cameras plus a recording server, quoted $5,840 one time ($292 each) plus $2,100 to $3,000 Smart Assurance over five years $15,940 to $48,840 plus the server
Spot AI, existing cameras Recorder included in the subscription About $23,760 a year at the cited $99 (third-party figure, quote varies) About $118,800
Surveillant, existing cameras None $8,988 on the yearly Elite plan, or $1,499 a month (published), AI included $44,940 on yearly billing

Read that table honestly. Avigilon Unity is the cheapest software line on the page, and if you are buying new cameras anyway, an Avigilon project can cost less over five years than any subscription here. The catch is installation, which Avigilon partners typically quote at $700 to $1,500 per camera installed, so a 20-camera job adds roughly $14,000 to $30,000 that the subscription options do not.

The two paths also land in different places on the books. Avigilon cameras and perpetual licenses are usually capitalized and depreciated, while a Spot AI or Surveillant subscription is an operating expense every month. If your finance team will ask which bucket this goes in, it helps to track and categorize recurring expenses by vendor from the start, so the five-year comparison uses the same numbers your books will.

Five Questions to Put to Spot AI and Your Avigilon Partner

01

Which of my cameras stay?

List every camera by brand and model. Spot AI should confirm each one connects. The Avigilon partner should say which ones it replaces and why.

02

What does the $99 actually include?

Ask Spot AI to split the recorder, storage days, support and any cameras into separate lines, so you compare software against software.

03

Alta or Unity, and why?

Get both priced. Alta trades the server for a recurring license; Unity is cheaper on licenses but needs servers and a maintenance plan.

04

What is the five-year total?

Cameras, recorders, servers, licenses, installation and storage, in one number per vendor. Per-camera rates alone hide most of the cost.

05

Can I test on my own footage?

Ask for a trial on your hardest views: a dim loading dock, a parking lot at night, a busy entrance. Vendor sample video tells you little.

Which Buyer Each Platform Fits

Choose Avigilon if

Your cameras are due for replacement, you want doors and video in one console, you prefer owning hardware and perpetual licenses, or you need an on-premise system. Budget for installation from day one.

Choose Spot AI if

You run a warehouse, plant or multi-site operation on a mixed fleet of working IP cameras and want safety and operations reporting as much as security, with a recorder on site and a subscription you can expense.

Choose neither if

You have 1 to 20 cameras per site, want no box in the building and a price you can read before any call. A cloud platform with a published monthly price, like ours, fits that buyer. See our Spot AI alternatives and Avigilon alternative pages for more options.

Questions Buyers Ask When Comparing Spot AI and Avigilon

How much does Spot AI cost per camera?

Spot AI does not publish a price. It sells a flat per-camera subscription that includes its Intelligent Video Recorder, and the figure review sites cite most often is about $99 per camera per month. Your quote depends on camera count, storage days, locations and term. Our Spot AI pricing guide covers what moves it.

How much does Avigilon cost per camera?

Avigilon cameras cost about $250 to over $10,000 each, with most commercial models at $400 to $2,000, based on reseller list prices. Each camera also needs a license: about $179 a year on Alta cloud, less per year on longer terms, or about $292 one time on Unity. Installation usually adds $700 to $1,500 per camera.

Does Spot AI work with Avigilon cameras?

Yes. Spot AI says it works with any ONVIF or RTSP IP camera, and Avigilon cameras support ONVIF. That makes Spot AI one of the ways to add newer AI on top of an existing Avigilon estate without replacing cameras. Confirm each model on your list during the trial.

Is Avigilon cheaper than Spot AI?

On software alone, usually yes: an Avigilon Unity license is about $292 per camera once, while a Spot AI subscription recurs every month. Once you add new cameras and $700 to $1,500 per camera of installation, the gap narrows, and if your current cameras can stay, Spot AI often costs less upfront. Compare five-year totals in writing.

What is the difference between Avigilon Alta and Avigilon Unity?

Alta is Avigilon's cloud-managed platform, licensed per camera per term, about $179 for one year with 30 days of cloud storage. Unity is the on-premise platform, formerly Avigilon Control Center, licensed about $292 per camera once and run on your own servers, with an optional maintenance plan of about $21 to $30 per license per year.

Does Spot AI include access control?

No. Spot AI focuses on video AI for security, operations and safety, and its own comparison lists access control as an Avigilon strength. If door readers are part of the project, price a separate access control system or choose a suite like Avigilon that includes it.

What is a cheaper alternative to Spot AI and Avigilon?

For one to twenty cameras per site, a cloud platform with a published monthly price and no on-site box is usually simpler. Surveillant connects to existing RTSP and ONVIF cameras from $49 to $75 per camera per month, with AI alerts and plain-English search included. It does not control doors.
